Van Norman Stock Horse Challenge

2011 Entry Form

General Description

The Van Norman Stockhorse Challenge is a three-event working cowhorse competition which consists of a reining pattern, single cow work, and roping. The reining pattern will be a NRCHA approved pattern and judges will use NRCHA scoring systems for all components. Equipment shall be governed by Rule 2, page 10, of the Elko County Fair Stockhorse Book.

While not a sanctioned event of any affiliate, judges will be NRCHA approved.

Contestant will enter the arena and begin the reining pattern. Upon completion, contestant will call for his/her cow.  Requirements will be to box the cow on the north end of the arena until control is demonstrated. They will then make one turn in each direction on the fence.( They do not circle the cow in the center.) Upon completion of the fence work, rider will build his/her loop and rope the yearling. The rider may use two loops. The only legal catch is around the neck. After the yearling is caught, the rider must stop and then pull the yearling approximately ten feet. Failure to catch the animal will be considered a break in the pattern and will be scored accordingly.
